Color-blocking is a trend that started during Spring 2011, and looks like it is here to stay. It has been popular through every season and is still a great style to use this summer. Color-blocking is a fairly easy trend to follow, just pair vibrant colors together to create a cool and contrasting outfit. If you want to be super trendy, use the color wheel as a reference and use bold complimentary colors.
There are many different ways to do color-blocking, my personal favorite is pairing together brightly colored separates. For example, if I was going to wear a royal blue skirt, I would pair it with a white shirt and a yellow cardigan, with complimenting accessories. If you don’t have many brightly colored separates, you can cheat and buy a color-blocked dress that does all the work for you. Use accessories to your advantage when you are color-blocking your outfit. Shoes, lipstick, a purse, and jewelry can change the tone of an entire outfit, so make sure you keep that in mind when you are looking for a pop of color.
Experimenting with color schemes using warm, cool, and neutrals will help you learn how color blocking works and what brings a successful outfit together. So if you need to update your closet to accommodate summer trends, look around for some brightly colored separates and think twice before spending a fortune on the latest trends you might already own!
