How to Series: Picking the Right Photographer for Your Wedding

Thursday, March 27, 2014 4:56:46 PM America/New_York

Dress? Check. Cake? Check. Photographer? In the works. Need a hand with picking the perfect photographer for your big day? Here are some things that will help you capture the perfect vender.

Before you hit up Google for every photographer in town, save yourself some time and first decide on what style you want. Knowing if you want a documentary, portraiture, fine art, or a more edgy style will help you narrow the search results. The photographer will do whatever you want, but it is in your best interest to find one that specializes, or is the best at, the style you want. This way you know you will love your wedding photos, which will give you one less thing to stress about.

How to Series: Picking the Right Venue

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 4:51:25 PM America/New_York

The wedding venue is the ultimate expression of a couple’s personality and picking the location can be a daunting task. Venue selection usually addresses two key factors: style sensibilities (aesthetics) and practical considerations, so keep these in mind while researching.

The overarching theme here is to find a location that represents the tastes of you and your fiancé. Everything should flow from here. Fortunately, there are plenty of options and pretty much anything goes. Churches are the traditional option but beaches, parks and other natural locations are extremely popular as well. There are also the more unusual locations like a hot air balloon—trust me, it’s been done—and underwater nuptials—yup, I’ve seen that too—so your options are limitless.

When reviewing a makeup artist’s work, look for variety. Does he or she have photos for different hours of the day? Does the artist have work in nature and/or in formal settings? Answering these questions will give you an indication of the range of experience.

How to Series: Picking the Right Dress - Part 2

Monday, February 24, 2014 2:06:43 PM America/New_York

Plus size brides will look stunning in an empire style dress that has a skirt that begins just under the bust. With a flowing skirt that extends in an A-line style, the dress will play up your gorgeous shape. A couple things to note: make sure there are no pleats in the fabric or that the empire seam starts at the chest. The best fabric for your body type will be satin because it will provide a little bit of structure to help highlight your beautiful frame.

If you have a straight-lined figure, look for a dress that will help create curves where you don’t necessarily have them. A sheath dress or the ball gown style that hits at your natural waist will show off your slender body and give the illusion of hips.
